Summerhill 4-8
Saturday evening saw the Summerhill Junior ladies team travel to Duleek to face Duleek Bellewstown in the quarter-finals of the Kepak Meath LGFA Junior C Championship.
Summerhill got off to a flying start, finding the back of the net inside three minutes through Niamh Crowe. Duleek Bellewstown responded with two points before Summerhill struck again with goals from Rosie Grehan and Isabel Moran. Their first point came from the boot of Jane Hughes, giving them a 3-1 to 0-2 lead after 10 minutes.
The home side then took control, replying with 2-2 to draw level. The game flowed end to end as Anna Carey, Rebecca King, and two more points from Crowe pushed Summerhill ahead once again. Duleek Bellewstown thought they had a goal in the 24th minute, but it was ruled out for a square ball.
King landed her second point of the contest with three minutes left in the half, but Duleek Bellewstown finished stronger, hitting a goal and three points to move in front at the break. The scoreboard read 3-8 to 3-6 at half-time, leaving the game finely poised.
Summerhill opened the second half with a point to cut the deficit to one, but Duleek Bellewstown quickly pulled clear, adding two goals and two points in just three minutes to move nine ahead. Crowe responded with her second goal of the evening, keeping Summerhill’s hopes alive, but more goals were needed if they were to stay in the championship.
Those chances never came as the home side struck at crucial moments, raising their sixth green flag and adding two further points. Grace Nangle replied with a point, but it proved to be Summerhill’s final score.
Duleek Bellewstown closed out with two more points to secure their place in the semi-final against Group A table-toppers Carnaross.
