SUMMERHILL LADIES LGFA

History

Summerhill Ladies Gaelic Football Club was founded in 1993, since then it has enjoyed phenomenal growth with current membership of 265 ladies and growing year on year.

Summerhill LGFA provides a social outlet and a healthy activity for the local Summerhill & surrounding areas ladies and girls. Starting with club football for primary schools girls, an individual can keep playing Ladies Gaelic football for as long as she wants, especially now with Gaelic4Mothers & others initiative for those adults interested in recreational or non-competitive participation.

Current Status

There are currently 270 members in our Club ranging from U7 to our 3 adult teams, Junior, Intermediate and Gaelic for Mother’s & Others (G4M&O).  For the first time in our history, we have 40 Under 7 members with four teams entered into the Little Ladies League.

Last year we were accepted to the Gaelic4Teens Programme. This programme is designed to help keep teenage girls participating in sport as the fall off rates can be high at this age level.  The programme provides training to Managers and Coaches alike to encourage teens to keep playing or to join the sport.

Last year the Club participated in the Gaelic4Girls Programme. This programmed promotes Gaelic football to girls who have never played before over 6-week duration. From this programmed over 30% have gone on to join other teams within Summerhill Ladies Club.

G4M&O was established in 2021.  This is a non-competitive fun programme to encourage adults over 25yrs to become involved in Gaelic football and create a social dimension to our Ladies Club setting.  We currently have 22 active members of this programme which is a phenomenal success.  See our G4M&O page for more details.

Summerhill Ladies LGFA currently has a number of players at different age levels representing our Club at County level.  This is a great achievement for our club and this year two of our senior players were part of the Meath All Ireland team who made history to win the Senior Championship 2021 and 2022.  This has been a great source of promotion for ladies’ football nationally and locally and we have already seen younger girls joining the club as a direct result of this win.
