The Summerhill Intermediate Ladies team have gotten their 2025 Kepak Meath LGFA Championship off to the perfect start after they had four points to spare over Ratoath on Wednesday evening.
Aoife Carey’s first-half goal was a crucial score as Summerhill went into the dressing rooms at half-time with a one-point lead, 1-3 to 0-5. Carey also scored the opening two points of the contest with two superb efforts while Kate Flynn chipped in a point from centre-forward.
Summerhill kept Ratoath at arms length and increased their lead to three with 25 minutes left thanks to points from Gracie Grehan and Mary-Kate Lynch. Ciara Flaherty and Grace Ennis also raised white flags before Jenny Rispin made a superb 1-on-1 save to deny Ratoath. A goal would have levelled the game inside the final 10 minutes.
The Rispin save gave Summerhill a new lease of life as Robyn Larkin and Carey pushed them five up heading into injury time. Ratoath looked to get a goal to force an exciting end, but that never came as Summerhill recorded an opening round victory.
Their next game will be away to Walterstown next Thursday at 7pm before finishing the group stages against St Michael’s on Wednesday, August 27.
